Search engine submission is necessary for all websites if they want to be showing up on the results pages for relevant searches. To get submitted in the major search engines is vital but it can also be difficult. Different search engines look for different things, so your site may do well in one but not even show up in another. Engines are very conscious of sites being re-submitted to often or too soon, so the key is to be patient. It can take anything from days to months for a site to show as registered with a search engine and the only real guarantee is the engines that accept paid submissions. It is probably worth paying to get listed, but it will not get you listed in all the major engines, some of them you will have to work for.
